Do you Require a Prescription for Dermal Fillers?

You do not require a private prescription for dermal fillers(Juvederm Ultra, Restylane, etc) as they are medical devices, not prescription only medicines.

You will have to pay VAT if you choose to buy your dermal filler products as a stock item and not on a private prescription.

Medical devices in general do not require a private prescription and can be purchased direct from selected medical aesthetic pharmacies and dermal filler manufacturers.

Botox Training The Botox Treatment Consultation

Once you have completed your botox training course and start to practice your new technical skills you will need to ensure you follow all the protocols required when providing elective medical aesthetic treatments.

Consultation skills are essential, you can evaluate the clients suitability for the botox treatment, ensure they understand any adverse events that can occur and ensure their expectations for the treatment results are realistic.
Your patient/client must be provided with information regarding the botox treatment to ensure they understand any complications or side effects associated with the treatment. Always have your botox patient information leaflets available in clinic.

This is the ideal time to ask the client to complete and sign a medical history questionnaire.
Review the medical history to ensure the client has no existing cautions or contraindications to the botox treatment.

Let the client voice their agenda before offering your suggestions.
Listening to your client is essential to ensure their expectations can be achieved.
Use a mirror and ask the patient about the areas they require treating and any other areas of concern.
Ask about any previous cosmetic treatments and any issues that may have been associated.
Ask your patient/client about the results they would like you to achieve.
Ask your patient about the results they would like to achieve from their botox treatment. Do they want a natural look with movement, brow lift or a frozen result with no movement. When you understand your client’s preferences you will be able to achieve the desired results.

KT Botox training and dermal filler course latest feedback

The Botox and dermal filler training weekend 20 and 21 August 2011 was the highest attendance for single weekend in KT Trainings 6 years of providing cosmetic courses for medical professionals.
This was the first time we have required 2 training venues in one weekend to accommodate the demand for our courses. With 5 treatment rooms requiring over 40 treatment appointments, 1500 units of Botox and Vistabel and over 60 syringes of dermal fillers.

It was a very busy weekend.

A special thank you to Yasmin who provided what is being coined as the mini MBA in the medical aesthetics business. Yasmin provided a 2 hour lecture at the end of the botox training day, from the feedback I received the session really motivated and gave the course attendees a sense of how they would achieve their objectives on completion of the cosmetic course.

Many thanks to all the medical team Dr. Hague, Dr. Desai, Dr. Ghalaie, Andrew and Jacquie who ensured all participants reached the level of confidence required to receive certification for the courses.

The course reviews were excellent and a special thank you to all the support team including Helen KT Training Course Manager, Ola , Alice, Jane and Joan Patient and Delegate Coordinator who ensure the weekend was run seamlessly.

Advertising Botox Botulinum Toxins, Wrinkle Treatments, Muscle Relaxants

Botulinum toxins are controlled drugs which are classed as prescription only medicines which are illegal advertise to the public in the UK and Europe.

In the US and Canada prescription only medicines can be used in advertising so you will see many US based clinics using the POM brand names BOTOX or BOCOUTURE in advertising campaigns on television and the web.

In the UK cosmetic clinics have a difficult situation when it comes to solutions for advertising their main product which is usually botulinum toxins.

Botox is also the keyword used by most potential clients searching for wrinkle treatments or cosmetic enhancement on the internet.
Google will not allow any Adword campaigns with the word botox and may even ban ad campaigns using pay per click for having POMs in the AdWords landing page if they find repeat violations of their advertising policies.

The MRHA provide guidelines for prescription only medicine advertising and will contact companies who break these guidelines requesting removal of any breach of POM advertising in the UK.

MRHA Statement
The advertising of medicines is controlled by a combination of statutory measures (with both criminal and civil sanctions) enforced by the MHRA, and self-regulation through Codes of Practice for the pharmaceutical industry, administered by trade associations.

For more information about advertising regulations for BOTOX and other prescription only medicines in the UK visit http://www.mhra.gov.uk/

Effectively promoting and marketing you and your cosmetic procedures will be covered in the complimentary business lecture for all participants at our botox course.
The KT Training Members Forum also has information and solutions to enable you to reach your potential clients without breaking the guidelines.
This area can only be accessed by our botox training course attendees.

Botox Taking Before and After Photographs

Producing good quality before and after photo is very easy with the current technology in digital cameras.
How to get good botox before and after photos
If possible allocate a chair in a part of the clinic that has good natural light and preferably a white or plain wall if possible. Most new digital cameras with 10 mega pixels will produce adequate photos.
Try NOT to use the flash if possible.

How to take patient before photos for:
Forehead lines with patient raising eyes brows.
Crows feet lines with patient squinting to produce the crows feet lines take a photo of both sides.
Glabellar lines with the patient producing a scrunch to exaggerate the glabellar lines frontal photo.
Also take photos of the lines at rest.

Botox post treatment patient photos
Post treatment photos should also be taken after the injections have been completed with the lines at rest even though the final treatment results are not visible until approximately 7-14 days.
The final photos will be taken at the 2 week follow up were you will see the finished results of the treatment you provided.
Before and after photographs are mandatory as part of your insurance policy.

They also provide invaluable references to review your work plus for in house marketing material with the opportunity for new patients to view the treatment results you have provided.
Always get written permission from your clients to use any photos for promotional and marketing activities.

If you have attended a KT Botox Training course please visit our members forum for more tips and advice plus examples of botox before and after photos available to download.

Dermal Fillers HydraFill® to Juvederm Ultra® a Journey

The evolution of the Juvederm dermal filler

HydraFill( hyaluronic acid dermal fille)r was launched in the UK market in 2004. The Hydrafill product line is manufactured by one of the largest known producers of hyaluronic acid, Corneal Laboratory (also manufactured the original Juvederm and the marketing and distribution of the Hydrafill Product Line was executed by Inamed Facial Aesthetics (now part of Allergan jInc).

The HydraFill Product Line quickly became a competitor to the Q-Med Range (Restylane, Perlane, Vital etc…) due to the fact that the product is softer and more forgiving. The product is non particulate and give a smoother finishes and minimizes lumping in the lips and nasolabials.

HydraFill Product line consisted of three grades, 1,2 and 3 for fine, medium and deep lines respectively.

Corneal Laboratories and Inamed Facial Aesthetics also produced the same dermal filler for the American market under the brand name Juvederm. The Juvederm Range in the United States came in Grades 18, 24 and 30. They also produced additional produced line under the brand name of Juvederm 24HV and Juvederm 30 HV. for facial volumising and hollows.

The HydraFill Product Line in the United Kingdom was again redefined in 2008 and rebranded and consolidated into 2 grades which were named HydraFill SoftLine for medium lines and HydraFill SoftLine Max for medium to deep lines including volumising. Even with the confusion of changing the brand names, the product range achieved great success due to its forgiving nature and natural looking results.

These products are still produced by the Corneal Laboratory which is now owned by Allergan.

After the merger of Inamed and Allergan the dermal filler product range was again rebranded

The HydraFill Softline brand was discontinued and instead Allergan introduced the Surgiderm XP range of dermal fillers to replace the Hydrafill range in the United Kingdom. UK also produced a similar range under the Juvederm Brand Name and at a higher price. They then engaged in a multi million pound campaign to create brand awareness for the Juvederm Line. The intent is to get the public to demand the more expensive Juvederm range instead of the Surgiderm XP range which is priced less than the Juvederm Range.

In 2010 Allergan introduced the first dermal filler product with lignocaine which is branded Juvederm Ultra.

Juvederm Ultra is now one of the most popular dermal filler products available. Most injectors will say that this product is more malleable and forgiving especially for new injectors. The quest is to crosslink the hyaluronic acid to withstand mechanical movements ,which breaks down the implant quickly, at the same time maintaining the softness of the implant. This is a challenge of most dermal filler manufacturer and Corneal seems to have an advantage in hyaluronic crosslinking technology. They are able to manufacture hyaluronic soft tissue dermal fillers that is long lasting and forgiving. Far superior to other products on the market.

At present, Allergan manufactures and markets Surgiderm XP® Range, Juvederm Ultra® Range and Voluma ® as its dermal filler range. .

Voluma® which was introduced in 2009 to the UK. Voluma® is a highly viscous dermal filler technology which can be used for cheekbone implants and Jawline redefinition.

KT Training provides dermal filler training courses using all of the Allergan Ranges for medical professionals in the UK. We fell that this is the best product range for injectors to use to achieve a forgiving and natural result for patients.

KT Training has over 17 years of experience in the Non Surgical Industry. Our owner was the former International Sales Director of Collagen and has seen many new products appear on the market which has disappeared within a year. In this area of medicine it is best to use products that has demonstrated continued improvements in safety, persistence and forgivingness. The products endorsed by the training company should not be biased and should be selected for the trainee’s benefit and not because the product is given to the training company for free.

Our dermal filler trainers are experienced with a wide range of dermal products and will also provide unbiased reviews of the dermal fillers available.

KT Dermal Filler Training Courses are NOT manufacture sponsored and provide unbiased reviews on the range of dermal filler products available on the market.
