What is VISTABEL?

The BOTOX® and VISTABEL® brand of neurotoxin is a registered trademark of Allergan Inc. The BOTOX brand has incorrectly become a generic word associated with many medical aesthetics treatments in the news and media. There are 3 brands of neurotoxins available widely used in aesthetic medicine. Each brand may have different approvals for use.

The development of botulinum toxin type A for cosmetic use was pioneered by Allergan. In March 2006 the first botulinum toxin VISTABEL® (licensed for severe glabellar lines) was introduced to the cosmetic market in the UK. However the BOTOX brand had already been approved for many years in the USA before being approved in the UK.

The differences between Vistabel and Botox are non, they exactly the same product.

VISTABEL® is the same product as BOTOX© which was used off license for many years to treat facial lines and wrinkles in the UK.

VISTABEL® was provided in 50 unit vials and BOTOX® was only provided in 100 unit vials at the time of launch.

In 2012 VISTABEL was then rebranded in the UK as BOTOX® in a 50 unit vial .

 

The Vistabel brand is no longer distributed by Allergan Inc. The BOTOX® brand is currently (2017) available in a variety of units in each vial.

Will a BOTOX 50 unit vial be more expensive than a Vistabel 50 unit vial?

No they are the same product and the price will transition to the new brand name.

How much is a box of BOTOX?

50 unit vial of BOTOX is approximately £80 GBP plus VAT(prescription price no VAT).
100 unit vial of BOTOX is approximately £140 GBP plus VAT(prescription price no VAT).

The prices for BOTOX and VISTABEL usually do not vary much.
A doctors and dentist can purchase BOTOX direct from Allergan this will incurr an added 20% VAT(2017). We will be reviewing some of the more recent botulinum toxin products available on the market soon.
