The UK was the first country to allow a nurse to provide cosmetic treatments in the world and now many other countries are allowing qualified nurses to practice.
On a recent trip to Canada and a visit to a cosmetic doctor we discovered that nurses are now providing these treatments in the doctors clinic.
Nurses registered with the NMC in the UK can attend Botox and Dermal Filler Courses.
Botulinum toxins are prescription only medicines and nurses must review their guidelines regarding the prescribing and administration of prescription only medicines(POM) to ensure they understand these guidelines before attending a BOTOX training courses. KT Training recommend that nurses who wish to attend the botox cosmetic course review the guidelines provided by NMC and MRHA.
It is recommended that nurses achieve the V300 independent nurse prescribing qualification which will allow the nurse to provide a prescription for a POM.
What should nurses familiarise themselves with before attending a course?
Before attending the botulinum toxin course nurses should review some of the core knowledge for these treatments such as mode of action, facial muscles, products and injection techniques. This will enhance their training experience. KT Training provide a free online course to assist candidates before they attend the course and many nurses have found to be excellent source to learn the core knowledge for each procedure.

Dermal Fillers, Dermaroller, Mesotherapy and Chemical Peels are not prescription only.
These products are medical devices and DO NOT require a prescription, nurses without the V300 can purchase these products direct from selected pharmacies.
